The One That Got Away - April 19th Just Southwest of Lubbock, Tx

This is the only picture I captured of the supercell on Monday April 19th that formed along the dryline and moved throught Yoakum, and Terry counties.  For awhile the radar storm attribute table was indicating a TVS (Tornadic Vortex Signature) only 1 hour before I arrived at the storm.  There was a tornado warning issued for the storm at this time too.  I was monitoring Base Reflectivity and the storm certainly had a ‘Flying Eagle’ appearance which is a common radar indicator of supercellular characteristics.  Actually to me it looked more like a scorpion with a curled tail. The curled tail or hook echo portion of the storm would be indicating a possible tornado.  I’m sad to report missing this storm because I put off leaving until 1:00pm from Austin, Tx! I also stopped and messed with my cellphone analog connections for receiving internet data for at least 45 minutes! Had I not messed around - no doubt I would have been treated to one of mother natures fine spectacles.  To my knowledge so far no other chasers were on this storm and it was in rural country so I do not know if it really ever produced a tornado or not.

In the image above you can see the back of the updraft (vertical wall) sticking out of an opening in the clouds. NWS mentioned via NOAA radio that it was there belief that this cell ingested stable rain cooled air from earlier storms initially east of this cell, and that killed it.
