Sagerton “Homecoming” Chase - April 5th
Wallcloud approaches from over Flat Top Mountain. |
Wallcloud - closer - showing extending developing tornado and at other end a Tail Cloud inflow “stinger”. |
Combined Panoramic view of wallcloud (looking west) as it approaches. Note on the north end the white building. This building is in the town of Sagerton which is just about to get hammered by golf ball sized hail.
Close up shot of funnel / developing tornado |
Base reflectivity shot about 1 hour after the event showing the very large tornadic cell and a “hook” |
Three shots of the full blown rain wrapped tornado about 3 to 4 miles due south of Sagerton in order of top left, top right, then bottom. Note the dark vertical wall on the inside of the precip, and the pendant vortex travelling around the outside of the tornado. The motion on video shows the dark wall “boiling” upward violently and the pendant rotating around the backside cyclonically. The top portion of the precip is also wrapping around cyclonically. Due to lighting and rain at the time I had a hard time realizing this was a tornado in the rain! It got to within a mile or so before I punched south. During my getaway I was blasted by ~70 to ~80mph RFD and tornadic wrap around wind. |
I took a small country road from Tuxedo to Stamford. Along the way I ran into this gustnado forming along the south shear interface to the storm. |
Another view as I drove closer. |
The Road to Woodson....”end of the road”, or “driving off the edge” look. |
Another shot closer to the town of Woodson from hwy 283 travelling north as the storm got closer. Chasers in Woodson had broken & smashed windows from 4” hail. |
Just about to make a right turn south toward the entrance to Possum Kindom Park. This is on the backside of the tornadic area looking east. Note the suspicious looking area to the right side of the road. Chasers on the east side of the park reported sighting a tornado about this time. |
